In the Spotlight

The Magik Theatre presents Wake Up, Brother, Bear!, a unique, intimate production geared toward children ages 5 and under. Watch Brother and Sister Bear experience a full year of glorious seasons: together we see a waterfall melt, meet a butterfly, chase an elusive fish, and skate on an icy pond. Children are invited to join the action with a small bag of props that help create magical moments.

Performances will take place at The Magik Performing Arts Center, 5359 Casa Bella, San Antonio, Texas 78249, off the IH-10 West access road between De Zavala Road and UTSA Boulevard. Click here for a map.

Theatre for the Very Young uses music, art and hands-on sensory experiences to connect children to literature. Wake Up, Brother Bear! was originally developed by Imagination Stage in Bethesda, Maryland.

When James is sent by his aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion which results in a tremendous peach. Suddenly, James finds himself in the center of the gigantic peach on a journey with human-sized insects with equally oversized personalities. Thanks to James' quick wits and creative thinking, the travelers learn to live and work together.

We are pleased to announce that we will offer sensory-friendly performances for most of our shows this year, providing an opportunity for patrons on the autism spectrum and their families to enjoy live theatre. During a sensory-friendly performance, house lights are kept on, sound levels are lower, audience members are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance, a designated quiet area is provided, outside snacks are permitted, and audience numbers are kept smaller, to offer an experience that will be both enjoyable and comfortable. Click here for information about all our sensory-friendly shows.
Our next sensory-friendly performance: James and the Giant Peach, Sunday, February 7, 2:00 p.m. Seating is limited and reservations are required.

We're going back to the Empire Theatre for Spring Break 2016, with our own version of The Jungle Book, the Magik play that toured nationally! Mowgli, his wolf-pack parents, Bagheera the panther, Baloo the bear, and Kaa the python are all here, along with the mischievous Bandar Log monkey tribe and treacherous tiger Shere Khan and his jackal accomplice Tabaqui. As Mowgli grows up, will he stay in the jungle or take his place in the world of men? March 17-20, 2016, at the Empire Theatre, 226 N. Houston Street, San Antonio, Texas 78205.
