Welcome to The Magik Theatre's 2008-2009 Season! This year we're celebrating our 15th Anniversary Season with nine exciting shows. Over 1.2 million people have experienced the sights and sounds of The Magik Theatre since our first curtain came up in 1994. Our productions bring books to life for young audiences and their families at affordable ticket prices. We encourage you to share this unique experience with your children - watch a show together, talk as a family about what you learned and encourage your children to read. September 16 – October 11, 2008 Friday at 7pm & Saturday at 2pm Based on the Works of Dr. Seuss
and the San Antonio Opera come together to present a fantastical and educational production for children of all ages. This year’s show will bring to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville! These classic, colorful tales are brought together by Jojo, a young boy and “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! This hilarious show tells the story of 12-year old Judson Moon, who with the help and persuasion of his best friend, elects to run for President after deciding that he could do a better job. What starts out as a local interest story, soon catches the attention of the national media, and even forces Congress to lower the age requirement for a presidential candidate. This unforgettable show will include a televised debate between Senator McCain, Senator Obama and Judson Moon. This will be an election to remember! tradition, The Nutcracker: A Holiday Comedy shares the secret to a healthy and happy life – laughter! This original Magik Theatre stage version of the classic holiday ballet played to sold out crowds last season, and is told through some of history’s greatest teams of comedians – the Marx Brothers, Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball and many others. Each year we do the show, we’ll add new comedians, and this year we’ll be adding Abbot and Costello, and Buster Keaton. So take a break from the holiday hustle and bustle and share a laugh with us at The Magik! This wonderful story will teach children and adults all about the healing power of laughter, and capture the magic of the holiday season. dinosaurs? The Dinosaur Musical takes us on a journey to a land at the end of the Cretaceous period, when a giant meteor has collided with the earth. In order to avoid extinction, the Herbivores and Carnivores are working together to stay alive and have even signed a peace pact! Director Richard Rosen, Phantom of the Alamo has played for the last 5 summers to sold-out crowds. A hilarious mix of musical theatre and Texas history, Phantom is a hit for locals and tourists of all ages. The play features the wonderful finale “The 13 Days of the Alamo,” where each day is portrayed through a parody of different Broadway hits. Join the Phantom, Chrissy, Raspa Boy and many others as they discover the legends of San Antonio’s most famous attraction – the Alamo!
August 21 - September 26, 2009 Fridays at 7pm Saturdays at 2pm Each year, we present a musical which features our staff, our summer camp interns, and students from universities all over the country. Join The Magik Theatre this summer for an exciting musical presentation of this classic story!
